HORSLEY, Sir Victor Alexander Haden.  A Recent Specimen of Artifial Myxoedema in a Monkey.  Lancet, 1884, Vol. 2, p.827.  By experimental removal of the thyroid Horsley produced artificial myxoedema confirming previous work by Reverdin and others.  At the time his results were regarded as proof that total thyroidectomy produces operative myxoedema, but some of the symptoms he described are now known to have been due to removal of the parathyroids.  (Garrison and Morton, 3834.).  Also included in this volume: Observations on the Relation of the Principle Fissures and Convolutions of the Cerebrum to the Outer Surface of the Scalp.  By Robert William Reid.  Lancet, p.539-40.  Reid's base line-the anthropometric base line on the skull.  (Garrison and Morton, 426.); Clinical Lectures on Cases of Difficult Diagnosis; Perforation of the Appendix Vermiformis.  By Samuel Fenwick.  Lancet, p.987-90, 1039-42.  In 1884 Fenwick advocated tying off and removal of the perforated appendix.  (Garrison and Morton, 3566.); Case of Cerebral Tumor.  By Alexander Hughes Bennett and Sir Rickman John Godlee.  Lancet, 1090-91pp.  First instance of diagnosis, accurate clinical localization, and operative removal of a tumor of the brain, November 25, 1884.  The patient survived for one month.  The preliminary report is in this volume.  (Garrison and Morton, 4858.).  Black boards rebacked in library cloth, minor wear and soiling.      $175.00
