MACCALLUM, William George.  On the Flagellated Form of the Malarial Parasite.  Lancet, 1897, Vol. 2, p.1240-41.  Macallum reported at a meeting of the British Association his observation of the mode of fertilization of the malarial parasite of birds; two months later he announced that he had found the same to hold good for the human parasite.  (Garrison and Morton, 5246.).  A binding copy.  $75.00

  12. ROSS, Sir Ronald.  Role of the Mosquito in the Evolution of the Malarial Parasite.  Lancet, 1898, Vol. 2, p.488-89.  Ross provided the last link in the chain demonstrating the complete life cycle of the parasite of bird malaria.  He found that mosquitos who had fed on malaria-infected birds, and which had allowed the parasites to develop and lodge in their salivary glands, could then infect healthy birds, which in turn became malarious.  Ross was awarded the Nobel prize for Medicine in 1902.  (Garrison and Morton, 5251.).  Both boards badly shaken with two inch closed tear to crown of spine.  Library binding.   $150.00

FLEMING, Sir Alexander.  LYSOZYME.  Lancet, 1929, Vol.1, p.217-20.  Fleming found a bacteriolytic substance in tears, nasal secretions, and many tissues; he called it "lysozyme".  This volume contains his earlier papers on the subject.  (See Garrison and Morton, 1922.).  Also included in this volume: The "Coeliac Affection" - Idiopathic Steatorrhoeas.  By Thorald Einar Hess Thaysen.  Idiopathic steatorrhoea, first described by Samuel Jones Gee was extensively studied by Thaysen, in so far as it occurs in adults and adolescents in non-tropical countries.  It also bears the name "Gee-Thaysen disease".  (Garrison and Morton, 3550.).  Library binding with some bumping to boards.    $85.00

ELLENBOG, Ulrich.  Treatise On Industrial Hygiene.  Lancet, 1932, Vol. 1, p.270-71.  Written in 1473 but not published until 1524, this is the first known work on industrial hygiene and toxicology.  This volume contains the first English translation from the German, originally entitled, "Von Den Gifftigen Besen Tempffen und Reuchen.  Augsburg."
