It is difficult, if not impossible, to give an exact idea of what we would be willing to pay for an antiquarian item sight unseen. If we feel that the items you are offering have little or no monetary value, we will tell you so. If, on the other hand, they appear to need personal attention from a member of the staff, we will arrange for you to send us the material, or, if the situation warrants, we will come to you.

Unlike some other fields of collecting, rare books, photos and manuscripts present an enormously complex challenge to the would-be seller. There are nuances of edition and condition which demand years of experience to assess. As long-time members of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, we understand those complexities and are bound by strict rules of ethics in business. If we feel that the items you are offering lie outside our areas of expertise, we will refer you to appropriate colleagues. We will try to explain the tools of our trade so that you can understand how we come to the price we offer you.
