Unusual and lovely binding by Pétrus Ruban (1851-1929) of full crushed morocco gilt with raised bands and gilt-decorated compartments. Onlays of motifs in white levant of open books surrounded by gilt floral decorations on both boards. Framed by fillets of gold and inlaid black levant. Delicately gilded inner dentelles, All edges gilt. Publisher's original wrappers bound-in and extra set of marbled endpapers also inserted. Housed in a custom slipcase covered in marbled paper edged with levant matching the binding of the book. A beautiful example of this rare title, in fine condition.
