MONROE, Harriet.  THE COLUMBIAN ODE (SOUVENIR EDITION). Illustrated by Will H. BRADLEY. Chicago: W. Irving Way & Co., 1893. 23 pp. 6 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches, sewn paper wrappers illustrated/printed in red and violet. Light soil and a few small closed edgetears to wrappers, small apostrophe-shaped hole to rear wrapper. Deckle edges lightly toned. First edition. Written at the request of the Joint Committee of Ceremonies of the World's Columbian Exhibition, and read October 21, 1892 at the dedication of the building for Manufactures and Liberal Arts. Set to music on the occasion by George W. Chadwick of Boston, only the lyrics are printed here. B/w illustrations in the text and on title page. Monroe, a Chicagoan, founded the influential magazine POETRY in 1912. Scarce. $650.00
