ELIOT, T. S. A TYPED LETTER WITH AN INK SIGNATURE AND AN INK ANNOTATION, ADDRESSED TO THE REVEREND W. R. LEWIS AT ARDINGTON VICARAGE, WANTAGE, BERKSHIRE, AND DATED 27 OCTOBER 1953. A single sheet, 8 x 7 inches, 12 typed lines on Faber & Faber letterhead, on one side of the sheet. The subject of this note involves a couple of points of church administration. Eliot begins by expressing his thanks "for your letter . . . correcting my error about the Parish Council...," when he should have referred to the Parochial Church Council, and moves on to discuss the process of appointing an organist not only by by the vicar "but, as I happen to know, the vicar may consult the Parochial Church Council and the church wardens where there is any case of doubt..." This occaisions Eliot's annotation "being a church warden myself" at the botom of the sheet. Beneath the typed closing "With grateful thanks, | Yours very truly" it is signed "T. S. Eliot". Creased from folding for mailing and having tape residue to upper corners, else fine.
