1880. Item #37318
[EHON] Takai Taiun. SANSUI GATEKI. 2 Vols., Tokyo, Meiji 13. 2 small, 19 x 12.5 cm volumes, string-bound Japanese style, fukuro toji. Unpaginated, with title page and colophon. Each volume with 20 sealed black and white woodcuts with sumi shading. These small landscapes in the Nanga style are delicately printed. In all, a slight work but a very charming one. It is unclear how much the people involved had to do with the Nanga revival of the time, but it is a graceful little book. Not in Mitchell. There is some water-staining to the preliminaries of volume one, which does not extend much beyond the front cover itself. The title labels are hand-brushed, the covers most probably original. The impressions are very good. Complete, 2 vols.:.
