HISTORY OF MASSACHUSETTS, FOR TWO HUNDRED YEARS

1835. Item #60618

BRADFORD, Alden. HISTORY OF MASSACHUSETTS, FOR TWO HUNDRED YEARS: from the year 1620 to 1820. Boston: Hilliard, Gray, and Co., 1835. First edition. Illustrated with six wood-engraved plates, portraits of James Otis, Samuel Adams, James Bowdoin, John Hancock, John Adams, and Gen. J. Warren. 480 pp. 8vo., original binding: green cloth back, printed paper label to spine, brown paper covered boards. Early ink ownership to first blank. Heavy foxing to endpapers, with very light, intermittent foxing in the book block. The original binding is edgeworn and rubbed at surfaces, missing a patch of the paper board-cover on the upper board; the spine is sunned, with a short tear at the the crown, and the label is a little edgeworn. Despite the stated Wear, the book is a solid copy, and in very good condition. The portraits in this copy are of interest because both Howes and Sabin contain entries for this book (B691 and 7223 respectively) and, as usual in copies bound with the green cloth spine, it does not contain the map; however, the portraits which appear in this copy are not mentioned in either entry despite the presence of the original binding.
