1897. Item #78017
FORD, Paul Leicester, ed. THE NEW ENGLAND PRIMER. A history of its origin and development. With a reprint of the unique copy of the earliest known edition and many facsimile illustrations and reproductions. New York: Dodd Mead and Co., 1897. From a total edition of 482 copies, this is one of 425 numbered copies printed on American handmade paper. 30 plates in all, including 3 double-page plates. xiv,354 pp. Small quarto, grey paper-covered boards backed with brown straight-grain leather, gilt-stamped spine title, edges untrimmed. Contemporary gift inscription, in pencil, on ffep. Binding is slightly skewed and shows general light soiling on boards, and a little superficial rubbing to leather. Endpapers and initial text leaves are lightly foxed, with occasional light foxing at some page edges within, but most text leaves are clean. It is a very good copy overall.
