First American edition. 288 black and white photographs printed one to a page. Introductory material in English; photo captions in German, English, French and Italian. xxxix,288 pp. Quarto, yellow cloth, gilt-stamped title to spine and upper board, grey endpapers. Ink ownership on front pastedown. The bottom fore-corner of both the half-title and the title-leaf has been cut away; the missing piece measures 4 3/4" x 3 3/4" (12 x 10 cm) resulting in loss of type, at the publisher's imprint and copyright information, on the title-leaf. The volume itself is slightly bowed. Otherwise, it is clean and fresh, nicely illustrated with quality reproductions, and a very good copy. In a good-plus photo-illustrated dust-jacket that is lightly soiled and edgeworn in general, with a few punctures and closed tears, and starting at one fold-in flap.
