Trobriand was a French resident of New York and Colonel of the 55th N.Y. Vol. Infantry. His book was written in French and first published in France. This is the first American edition. Illustrated with a steel-engraved portrait and six maps. Octavo [2].,xi,757 pp. Publisher's blue cloth, gilt-stamped leather spine label, grey coated endpapers, t.e.g. Spine has shallow loss at crown and show light wear at heel. Leather label is edge-chipped. The book is a bit over-opened near the center, and the rear hinge is starting at the top, but sound. It is an attractive and very good copy. (Larner 2353).
