Square 12mo. vi,110pp. An Italian edition of Mrs. Barbauld's "Hymns in Prose for Children" had been published in London in 1819 and 1829, by a translator identified only as "un Toscano." Pietro Bachi, an instructor at Harvard, finding the London version wanting in accuracy and completeness, produced this "nuova edizione," with his own preface and an extract from the preface to the London edition. The "nuova editione" is probably in fact the first edition of his own version, as no others appear in the OCLC. The purpose was to help young people learn the Italian language, through the use of a text with which they were already familiar. Original mulberry glazed cloth boards with printed label. Some light foxing, and faint waterstain to edge of some pages; backstrip starting. Quite rare.
