KOKUGO JIKEN SATSUJIN JITEN

1982. Item #82676

[PHOTOGRAPHY - JAPANESE] INOUE Hisashi & MITOME Tadao. KOKUGO JIKEN SATSUJIN JITEN. Tokyo, 1982. Square 8vo., Photos by Mitome, the winner of the first Ken Domon Photography Prize and text by Inoue. The title reveals all, but it is a very complex pun, untranslatable with our poor skills. A "kokugo jiten" is a dictionary of a given language; a "satsujin jiken" is a murder. Reversing the euphonic words creates an ironic and deliberate Spoonerism. An interesting and powerful look at the outrages of violence perpetrated across the contemporary world and the words used to describe them. Printed boards, fine in illustrated dustwrapper and bellyband. Text in Japanese.
