Norwich: Printed for the Author By W. Chase, 1767. Two volumes, of which Volume I is a first edition. xviii + 19-459 pp./xxvi + 422 pp. Volume II has 17 plates (complete). Worn calf boards, raised bands, boards detached on both volumes. Ink ownership to title pages. Minimal foxing to text, and to a few plates. Front flyleaf detached in Vol. II, laid in. Gooch was one of the greatest provincial surgeons of the 18th century, and was an innovator in the design of surgical appliances (Heirs of Hippocrates, 299). Volume II is illustrated with 17 engraved plates, many folding, depicting surgeries and appliances.
