Labels and rules faded, spine chipped, boards worn with a few small holes in leather. Frontispiece and eight engraved plates in very good condition; a few plates have a bit of extra creasing in the folds. Owner's discreet inkstamp to verso of frontispiece, title page. Occasional pencil markings in the margins. Heister's last book, with over 600 cases. Lorenz Heister (1683-1758) was a surgeon, botanist and anatomist. 'In 1718, Heister is credited for coining the word "tracheotomy", and was the first physician to study the pathology of appendicitis. His name is lent to the plant genus Heisteria, as well as to the Spiral valves of Heister, which are anatomical folds of the cystic duct.' -Wikipedia. Wellcome, vol. III p. 237.
