All are beautifully illustrated in colors, including intricate historiated borders and 11 full-page full-color illustrations. Nearly square quarto, 17.8 x 18.5 cm., cloth-backed illustrated paper boards and decorated endpapers designed by Crane; with all edges tinted yellow. It is a bit darkened on spine and shows some negligible edgewear, but is a fresh and appealing copy overall. Clean and fresh within, though the tissue guard had adhered to the frontispiece in one spot near the inside margin and . In the original printed dust jacket - some edge chipping, split at the front fold-in, and missing spine - that advertises THE BABY'S OPERA as a companion volume. (Masse, pp. 11, 15 & 31).
