[EHON] Suzuki Fuyo^, artist. HI KANGEN SANSUI GASHIKI 3 vols. Edo, Kyo^to & O^saka, Genji Gannen [1864]. Suwaraya mo^hei, et al. Blue-grey blind-patterned covers with printed paper title labels, string-bound Japanese-style, fukuro-toji. 24.9 x 17.5 cm. The original edition of this interesting book was published by the same publisher back in Kansei 1 [1789], so a late reprint, indeed. Yet the simple b+w blocks had worn but little and the book faithfully captures the spirit of the Chinese-influenced original, exploring the landscape techniques of Hi Kangen (Fei Han-yuan), a Chinese merchant and artist who lived in japan during the mid-18th century and became a popular teacher of nanga painting. See Mitchell, p. 295. Virtually identical to the copy in the British Museum. Very unusual work complete.
