MONMON-CHÔ [Katazome]. Serizawa Keisuke, artist. Tokyo: Gallery Gohachi, 1974 Showa 49. First edition. An orihon folding album with many free designs created by Serizawa Keisuke, the master stencil-printing and mingei artist, who was named a Living National Treasure in 1956. The album includes a total of 62 monochrome collotype-printed plates of patterns (including the colophon), hand-coloured by Serizawa and tipped-in to both sides of each fold. This copy is number 184 of a limited edition of 250 copies, and comes with a loosely-inserted folded leaf printed with a comment by Serizawa on the making of the book, and an order form for Gallery Gohachi's 'Korekushon' ('Collection') series. Original book-box is in near fine condition, with extremely light foxing to internal flaps and very minor bumps to one or two corners. Original clasps in nice condition. Original folding orihon (accordion-style) binding, decorative patterns and characters colour stencil-printed to both boards. Illustrations also in near fine to fine condition, and most pages with original tissue guards. 1 v., complete. 28.8 x 17.9 cm. Text in Japanese. No copies in OCLC. Hand-coloured by the artist.
