Satoh Nobuo 佐藤暢男 (1926-2005) developed his aesthetic taste by composing poetry, including tanka and waka (Japanese traditional poetry), while surrounded by the metal of a military plane in which he served during WWII. He composed what he thought may become his death poems, as he never knew if tomorrow would come. Born in Kanagawa prefecture, not far from Tokyo, he entered the Association of Print Artists in 1966 and won an award at the Krakow International Print Biennale the same year. He participated in shows in Europe, the US and further afield, including Italy, Paris and Egypt, over the course of 3 decades and his work is widely collected.
