The book design and covers are by Onchi Kōshirō 恩地孝四郎, perhaps the most important book designer of the 20th century in Japan. This volume and Hiko Kanno 飛行官能 [The Sensation of Flight] are considered masterpieces. In addition, one may not ignore the fact of this work’s great impact on Japanese photographers of the day and thereafter. The text and selected images provided a new artistic vocabulary for an entire generation of photographers.
Foxing and overall toning to slipcase. But, this book is unusually hard to find, particularly in its slipcase. This is a very good copy of the amazing covers and book design of the work. The slipcase is very faded but intact and remarkable.
Only the second copy we have ever handled.
