The original set in original chitsu of this important reference to the Silk Road treasures in the Shosoin, illustrated with wonderful collotypes and the spectacular xylographic color woodblock techniques Shimbi Shoin employed at the time. Large folios, 51.5 x 33.8 cm., with brocade covers. Originally published in To^kyo^ in 1908-9, these volumes were done from 1926 to 1928. [Taisho^ 15 to Sho^wa 3]. Scholarly, informative, beautiful, a typical deluxe Shimbi Shoin production of the time. Text in Japanese The wraparound publisher's clasped cases are quite worn, but the book themselves are very nice inside and out.
