[Ehon, botanical, flowers] Single volume 27.3 x 18.2 cm. Original covers, printed title label. String-bound Japanese-style, fukuro toji. Bold and simple renditions of plants and flowers by the master of the abbreviated drawing style, Keisai Masayoshi 恵斎政美 (1764-1824). Both Hillier and Bartlett and Shohara note that these works are both less impressionistic and yet more detailed than his usual abbreviated style. Housed in a custom clasped chitsu. A bit of well-restored worming. Though hardly ever found in good impression because of the demanding nature of the original blocks, this copy is quite well printed in soft, lovely colors. The variability of coloration of this book from copy to copy is remarkable.
