Suichikutei 水竹亭, publisher. 4 volumes 26 x 18.3cm string bound Japanese style in fukuro toji with paper wrappers and printed title slips. Each volume represents the cultivation of plants in 1 of 4 seasons: Spring: Jan - March, Summer: April - June, Fall: July - Sept and Winter: Oct - Dec. 30 original black and white woodblock prints with Japanese text. Vol 1 has [42] cho with 6 full page and 1 half page woodcuts. Vol 2 has [34] cho with 6 full page woodcuts. Vol 3 has [20] cho with 6 full page woodcuts. Vol 4 has [30] cho with 11 full page woodcuts. Corresponds with Shin Nippon Kotenseki Sōgō Database 新日本古典籍総合データベース and is complete as such.
The work of woodblock artist Matsukawa Hanzan 松川半山 (1818-1882) is held in institutions in Japan and internationally, including Lacma, The Metropolitan Museum, The Art Institute of Chicago and The British Museum.
Some wear to wrappers and title slips. Worming on middle pages of Vol 4 (approx 9 cho), mostly confined to text, otherwise good condition.
