15x9.8cm small crepe paper book, opens Western style, with decorated wrappers. Perfect-bound with holes for sewing. This volume was published by the Hasegawa family when they were known as Kōbunsha, working from the address in Minami Saegichō 南佐柄木町 Tokyo, their first address. Detailed blue, black and gray woodblock prints with touches of red and orange.

The translator Kate James was the wife of a naval officer stationed in Japan, and translated numerous fairy tales for Hasegawa publishing. English language text tells the tale of an evil badger who takes advantage of a mother fox, and the revenge of her cub.

Wear to covers; front cover and first cho is detached at top. Staining to rear wrapper. Interior pages in good condition.
